Venice Film Festival 2026: premieres, amfAR and the city on the water

A red-carpet premiere on the Lido, the amfAR Gala at the Molino Stucky, and a city where every evening depends on the next boat.

Venice does not announce the festival so much as slow down for it. By the first days of September the water taxis are already booked by the hour, the Lido hotels have stopped answering about availability, and the Giudecca waterfront fills at sunset with people in black tie waiting for a boat rather than a car.

The 83rd Venice International Film Festival ran from 2 to 12 September 2026 on the Lido. As always, the official programme was only part of the story. Around the screenings, the city carried a second calendar of private dinners, palazzo receptions, brand evenings and gatherings that were never publicly listed.

Luxury Concierge Services spent the festival in Venice with clients. On 4 September we were on the red carpet for the out-of-competition premiere of Paul Schrader's The Basics of Philosophy. Two days later, on 6 September, the evening belonged to the amfAR Gala Venezia at the Molino Stucky on Giudecca, where cinema, fashion, art and philanthropy shared one long room.

Venice rewards preparation more than any other festival city. There are no roads to fall back on. Every transfer is a boat, every boat is a timetable, and every timetable depends on tides, security perimeters and a pier that may already be full. A premiere on the Lido followed by a dinner in Dorsoduro is not one plan. It is four connections that all have to hold.

That is where our work sits. Water taxis waiting at the right landing, arrivals timed around the red carpet rather than the traffic, wardrobe ready before the evening rather than during it, tables that held when the night ran long. The value is not in being invited. It is in moving from the screening to the gala to the late dinner without ever feeling the logistics underneath.

Some of the best moments happened between the official ones. A crossing to Giudecca with the whole city turning gold behind the boat. A conversation on the pier that became an introduction. A table that stayed open well past midnight because nobody wanted the evening to end.

By the final weekend, the Lido was emptying and the boats were heading back to the airport. For ten days, Venice had held cinema at its centre. For our clients, it simply felt like the city had been arranged for them.
